Year 6 Exciting trip to PGL France
Some of our Year 6 children have recently returned from an unforgettable trip to France! The heated outdoor pool at PGL Chateau de Grande Romaine proved particularly popular and the children had the opportunity to swim several times during the week but the experience of international travel and culture abroad were the main reasons for going.
The children enjoyed a day in Paris, climbing the Eiffel Tower to the second level and enjoying the views across this amazing city, looking at the various landmarks and places of interest. Then they enjoyed a boat trip along the River Seine, passing the renovated Notre Dame among other sites, which soaking up the Parisian ambience. A quick coach relocation allowed them to use their French to buy souvenirs in the tourist district of Montmartre and the iconic Sacre Coeur.
A local market proved popular for souvenirs, followed by some PGL site activities for another day – the axe throwing was particularly popular for some reason! It’s harder than it looks!
Then there is what is, for many of the children, the highlight of the trip – a whole day in Disneyland Paris. The children visited the Disneyland Paris park first and had the opportunity to go on some of the thrill rides (such as Hyperspace Mountain) for the adventurous or family rides for those who prefer something a little calmer. It’s always fun to go on a ride with the whole group together and Star Tours provided exactly that. The parade was bright, colourful and entertaining, despite the heat! Relocating to the Disney Adventure World park, the children saw Arendelle in the new World of Frozen and again could ride either the thrill rides of the Hollywood Tower of Terror or Avengers Assemble: Flight Force or defeat the spiders in Spiderman WEB adventures. A magical day for all!
We visited Vimy Ridge Canadian Memorial and preserved WW1 trenches on our way home in what proved to be a very thought-provoking visit. The opportunity to walk in the trenches and see how close both sides were during the conflict will stay with the children for some time to come.
Altogether, the trip proved unforgettable! It’s a fantastic opportunity for a Primary aged pupil and would be thoroughly recommended by all those who attended! A spark for adventure and foreign travel has been lit, and some children have discovered their flare for languages – it’s definitely a case of ‘to infinity and beyond!’ for many of those who attended!
