New Life At Madginford

EYFS Hatches Chicks!

In EYFS, we have been very busy playing the role of farmers, scientists and extremely proud chick watchers! The children have carefully incubated seven eggs. During the day, on Wednesday the 5th of May, little cheeps could be heard from inside the incubator. Children were then thrilled when five fluffy superstars made their grand entrance into the world on the evening of Thursday 6th May and throughout Friday. Since then, our chicks have become the most popular members of the school community. Every weekend they enjoy a little “holiday” at home with Mx Liddle and Miss Davies before returning on Monday, ready for another week of learning (and being admired!) with the children. They currently live in a spacious, lovingly homemade brooder just outside Mrs Woolcombe’s and Mrs Best’s office, complete with a cosy heat plate, food, water and even toys to keep them entertained. The children have all had the opportunity to gently hold them and have shown such care, patience, curiosity and kindness. The chicks have grown tremendously already, sprouting feathers and finding their voices! Did you know chicks can recognise friendly voices, start communicating with soft peeps before they even hatch and can run about just hours after being born? At around six weeks old, they will be big enough to venture outside into KS2 for the next stage of their adventure. We are so proud of how the children have nurtured, observed and absolutely adored our newest feathered friends
