At Madginford Primary School, we believe that every child is unique. We want all our children to feel happy, confident and included, and to have the support they need to achieve their best.

Some children may need additional or different support to help them access learning, develop their independence or manage particular challenges. Where this is the case, we work closely with children and their families to understand their individual needs and agree how we can best support them.

A plan that is right for your child

Where appropriate, your child may have a Support Plan. This is a personalised plan that helps us to identify what your child needs, what we are working towards and the strategies and support that will help them.

A Support Plan may include:

• Strengths and interests – what your child enjoys, what they are good at and what motivates them.
• Areas of need – identifying the areas where your child may need additional support.
• Outcomes and targets – setting clear and achievable goals that are meaningful for your child.
• Support and strategies – outlining the approaches, interventions or reasonable adjustments that will help your child to learn and participate.
• Who will support your child – identifying the staff involved in providing and monitoring support.
• Your child’s voice – making sure your child’s views and experiences are listened to and valued.
• Family views – working with parents and carers so that your knowledge and understanding of your child helps to shape their support.

Working together

We know that parents and carers know their children best. We value your knowledge, experience and insight and believe that working together gives children the best opportunity to succeed.

We will keep you informed about your child’s progress and welcome your views about what is working well and what may need to change.

Where appropriate, your child will also be involved in talking about their learning, sharing their views and helping to identify what will support them best.

Reviewing progress

Children's needs can change as they grow and develop, so support is reviewed regularly.

During a review, we will consider your child's progress, what has worked well and whether any changes to their support are needed. We will also consider the views of your child and family.

Our aim is always to provide the right support at the right time, helping children to become increasingly confident, independent and successful learners.

Who can I talk to?

If you have a concern about your child's learning, development or additional needs, please speak to your child's class teacher in the first instance.

You can also contact our SENCo, Mrs Farrell, who will be happy to discuss your concerns and talk through the support available.
